Spotlight on Panama with Ogaya Travel
About a year ago I was invited on FAM trip with Ogaya. I had never been to Panama, and the tour operator I was working for at the time wasn't planning to expand into Central America. I felt, however, that this was an opportunity not to be missed; Panama felt relevant and timely as a "new" destination for my clients, and Ogaya's itinerary looked frankly too beautiful too pass up. What I experienced was one of the most refreshing research trips I've taken.

White sand beaches, the engineering marvel of the Panama Canal, an emerging culinary scene, astounding biodiversity, a carbon-negative country (one of only three in the world!), world-class coffee, adventure tourism, private island stays, whale watching, vibrant Indigenous cultures stewarding conservation, marine reserves, over-water villas rivaling the Maldives, a capital city with an international airport servicing direct flights to 26 cities in North America, and a small size allowing you to have breakfast in Casco Antiguo and lunch on the Pacific - any one of these could be your client's reason for visiting Panama.
While Costa Rica has been on the North American travelers radar for decades, Panama remains sheltered from that influx of tourism. In fact travelers to Costa Rica often end their trip in Bocas del Toro, Panama for the pristine beach experience, and Costa Rica and Panama can easily be combined.
However, we believe Panama is a stand-alone destination, and an easy sell. The variety of experiences means there is something for everyone.

You may never meet a couple more passionate about their country than Iván and María Amelia, the husband and wife duo who founded Ogaya. Based in Panama City, this relatively new DMC wasn't born out of thin air; Iván previously served as Minister of Tourism, while María Amelia's early roles in hospitality around the country shaped her expertise in aesthetics and operational excellence. Together, they managed a boutique Pacific Coast lodge, refining their expertise in high-end hospitality and complex logistics.
In 2024, Ogaya was born. High-touch luxury is their default, but what really sets them apart is their commitment to regenerative travel; a significant percentage of every trip is donated to hand-picked conservation projects.
Ogaya centers honest cultural experiences throughout the country, resulting in a compounding impact that's felt by everyone, and sticks with your traveler long after they've returned home.
