Signature Experiences

The highlights of any trip to Colombia are the connections made with its people, places, and traditions. These experiences are designed to move beyond typical sightseeing:

  • Gachancipá: Ancestral Seeds & Sopa de Indios

Maria Lilia is a certified guardian of Colombia’s culinary history. At her family’s Museo Campesino, spend the morning learning about ancestral seed conservation before sitting down for a bowl of Sopa de Indios—a dish that effectively tells the story of Cundinamarca’s rural heritage.

  • Medellín: The Workshops of Barrio Colombia

Get into the industrial grit of the Ba.Co Art District. Instead of a traditional gallery tour, head into 14 active workshops where 36 different artists work. It’s a direct look at Medellín’s contemporary design scene and the creative energy currently driving the city.

  • Bogotá: Afro-Pacific Beats & Viche

You can find the soul of the Pacific coast in the middle of the capital. In a private workshop, local musicians walk through the rhythms of the marimba and cununo drums. Learn the stories behind the movement and try viche, a traditional moonshine central to Afro-Colombian identity.

  • San Andrés: Reef Restoration and Diving

Working alongside local environmentalists in the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, head out to the barrier reef to assist with hands-on coral restoration, learning the mechanics of how to actually rebuild a damaged ecosystem.

Why Colombia?

Colombia is a forward thinking, creative, and charismatic country. After just a few days on the ground, it becomes clear how magical realism took root here; the country is a constant hum of rhythm and color, leaving you with the sense that something unexpected could appear around any corner.

One of the most refreshing aspects of traveling to Colombia is the lack of a single "must-see" site. There is no equivalent to Machu Picchu or the Galapagos, and travelers typically don’t arrive with a checklist to rush through. Instead, the reward is found discovering what resonates on a personal level.

Colombia itineraries are often anchored by cities - Bogotá’s creative energy, Medellín’s effortless cool, Cali’s joyful salsa beats, and Cartagena’s colorful streets. Charming small towns like Villa de Leyva and Barichara are nestled in the mountains and feel stuck in time. Natural beauty and wildlife are found all over, and in endless forms. Landscapes range from crystal-clear Caribbean waters and the dense Amazon to high-altitude peaks and arid deserts. Colombia has the highest biodiversity per square kilometer in the world - birds and orchids are especially plentiful.

For us, the draw of Colombia is its collective energy. There is remarkable diversity, ancient and modern history, art in both museums and street corners. Throughout the country, there is a palpable sense of pride and a culture of hospitality that makes falling in love with Colombia irresistible.

For the travel advisor, Colombia is a playground for customization. Every special interest, activity level, and type of luxury can be catered to in Colombia. It is a year-round destination where the "season" is determined by elevation rather than the calendar, allowing for perfectly timed trips regardless of when a client wants to travel.

About the founder

Andrea Morita

Growing up in Bogotá, Andrea was captivated by Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude. The book opened her eyes to the landscapes, people, and magic of her country.

Andrea founded The Colombian Trip out of a desire to share the real Colombia with the world, and to rewrite the outdated stereotypes portrayed in the media. With a background in accounting and international relations, she takes a meticulous approach to business development and sustainable travel.

What truly drives Andrea is the people she works with. Not only the travelers who visit Colombia, but also her team of passionate professionals who have become family, and the people who make each destination shine.

Under her leadership, The Colombian Trip became a B Corp. The certification reflects the team’s commitment to balancing profit with purpose, ensuring that every step taken is aligned with their values of sustainability, responsibility, and creating a positive impact on the communities they serve.
